vegetarian indian food is boring me?

i am married to an indian and have been for the past 4-5 years and every night(well almost) he expects indian food which consists of these base ingredients.. garlic, onions, garam masala and other powders like curry powder then turmeric ,cummin, chilli etc all this as a base with either vegetables like potatoes, peas, capsicum etc or lentals and beans eg chickpeas ,kidney beans. with a bread called roti..now that is a traditional home cooked meal,i have been to india and learnt cooking and recipes etc from his mum/sisters and it seems as though these ingredients are always the same every night.....with bread or rice if ur lucky, now the problem is that im am getting sick of making this boring combo every night...its just vegetables with bread all the time...im not used to eating like this all the time and my man says its not a "meal" meaning it doesnt fill him up unless its indian food we have maybe 2-3 "western"meals a week but seems as though indian is taking over..im sick of it. help!!! i was well aware of the way indians eat before we married and acepted that but surely the north indian home stlye veg food shouldn't be so boring/repedative all the time there must be something else i can make or another way of making these dishes. and we rarley eat meat too,not big fans of it.. lol thats funny i might try that.. it's like if i was to tell you that we were going to have bolognaise every night for a week, but you can change what kind of pasta you put with it..lol how interesting..lol

  1. next time just make a huge beef steak and tell him that's what he's getting for a month.... Then start feeding him chickens....
  2. ever considered oriental cuisines?
  3. uhh you have to believe in yourself lol and the 'roti' is a traditional food for indians the normal one is called 'roti canai' i believe your husband like to eat that!! well you are not an indian right?? you have to get used to it we must not disobey our husband '& thats the most thing i hate about marring!!' hehe anyways BELIEVE IN YOURSELF DON"T BELIEVE IN OTHERS!! remember that!!
  4. lol!! I JUST had this conversation with my Husband, Puneet. I am also married to an Indian, and we have been living in India for the past two years. I am so sick of Indian food. He is also from the north and though he is a bit adventurous..as adventurous as vegetarians can be..I know what he really wants is the roti, dal, subzi routine everyday. To me, its all starting to taste the same. And I often find myself making two meals..one for myself and one for him! Which is anyways hard to do, because believe it or not..most western cuisine ingredients aren't available in India. Whenever I ask him what he wants for dinner.. he always answers with the same smart alect chime.."whatever you'llll feeeeddd mmeeeee" Great. Which isnt necessarily true.. 'cause if I whip out some spaghetti..chances are, he wont be loving it. He too craves those same old, onion garlic ginger cilantro cumin garam masala (add whatever main ingredient here). So while, I dont have any advice for you, I feel your pain and if you get any advice..please pass it along to me. c.maggard@gmx.net
  5. Well, he should be considerate of you and allow different meals. Maybe you should plan a menu for the week. Try other things that he likes. I am married to a Russian, and at home we basically eat food from all over. Start adding different food at each meal, side dishes and so on. Work on a plan with him.
  6. Typical Indian Male (we call them tims!). Try to compromise by making more contemporary Indian dishes and fusion food. How about Indian Chinese or Indianized Pizza? Does he eat non veg food? Grill some Indianized fish or shrimp. Take kebabs and naans and make wraps. My mom makes an Indianized version of epplant parm and lasagna! It is delicious. You can also make more indianized stir frys. Indianize versions of stuffed peppers, eggplants, zucchinis... I make my kids quesadillas and fajitas with Indian style veggies & chicken... Floyd Cardoz is a wonderful chef and a master at Indian fusion cuisine. He's Goan and his book will help with ideas: One Spice, Two Spice Most Indians like Thai food. There are some Malay, Indonesian & Singaporean dishes that have an Indian flavor to them; like Mee Goreng. Hope this helps.
