  1. What if the girl on the check out is a meat eater though! Dogs eat meat. Get a Rabbit
  2. I think dogs need meat for protein, have you thought of a dry dog food which has meat and veg etc... in but is not nasty to handle. Science Plan is a good one to have.
  3. No to supermarkets. We have a holistic all natural pet store in our town, you can find them in the yellow pages. They carry a line of vegetarian dog food, which quite frankly, is no more healthy for the dog (who is a carnivore) than it is for people.
  4. You might be a vegetarian, but dogs ARE NOT! I'm sure you want to keep your new dog healthy, so you will need to buy a quality kibble.
  5. Dogs are not vegetarians. They need meat to survive and be healthy and strong. Get a good quality dog from from a good pet store not a supermarket. You will not find anything but garbage dog food in the grocery store.
  6. Dogs, while they can survive on a vegetarian diet (unlike cats), seldom thrive on one. Your dog does not have the same moral code as you do. If you want a vegetarian pet, get a rabbit. If you are serious about this, you won't find a high quality food in the grocery store - try a specialty pet store.
  7. To put it bluntly, dogs aren't vegetarians and to me, it is cruel forcing a CARNIVORE to change it's diet to suit that of it's owner. Your best bet is go organic with your dog's diet, such as Orijen. http://www.championpetfoods.com/orijen/orijen/
  8. Dogs are not vegetarians. You should not force it upon them, either. You are a vegetarian, good for you, but you should not get a dog if you cannot deal with feeding them food that includes meat.
  9. there is no such thing as a vegetarian dog. dogs need meat. humans can (as unhealthy as it is) get all their protein from plants but dogs cannot. if u deprive ur dog of meat, its like depriving ur dog of air. a dog cannot survive without meat. i cant stress that enough. u will be starving ur dog. a dog needs meat. there are laws against starving an animal. u could go to jail for animal neglect or at least be fined.dont do this to an innocent animal. dogs need meat. dogs NEED meat! if u want a vegetarian pet, get a parrot.
  10. Dogs are not vegetarians... It's very unfair and abusive to feed a dog only vegetables.. they are meat eaters. Don't force your lifestyle on your dog, it's unhealthy for him.
  11. I don't know about the grocery store but I know the specialty pet store I go to does & I'm sure there's a web site, just keep in mind a dog is a carnivore and I' check with a Vet and see if they need suppliments
  12. Some pet stores have vegetarian meals, I really can't remember but I think that Natural Balance might. Other than that I might suggest going with a fish diet, I know it's meat but you realize that dogs do need meat. Some dogs cannot go without the meat. Diet wise you may have to look into making your own food. Here is one site that offers vegan dog food http://www.v-dogfood.com/ Here is the Natural Balance one, Natural Balance is a more common brand so you might have some luck finding it. It really depends on where you live. http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/dogformulas/Vegetarian.html
  13. Yes you can buy vegetarian food, you may have to go to a pet store. Do remember though that you may choose to not eat meat but it is really important for dogs. Also you have to be careful when changing any dogs diet so dramatically.
  14. Uhm, I'm an active vegetarian too, but my dog is not. I feel that dogs NEED the meat. So even though my beliefs of the way the meat is killed (inhumanely) I still believe that dogs should eat meat, even if there owners doesn't. Just try getting a better quality dry food such as purina one or pedigree.
  15. As everyone else has stated, dogs are carnivores and need meat. Feeding your dog vegetarian food is going to lead to poor nutrition and weight loss. It's animal abuse. If you want a vegetarian pet, get a rabbit, guniea pig, or hamster.
  16. You should NOT try to turn a dog into a vegetarian. Dogs are omnivores, so they can eat processed vegetables, but they need meat as well, for the protein and amino acids in meat. I know it's hard to imagine, but in the wild, dogs do kill rabbits, foxes, squirrels, and other animals to provide themselves and their puppies with food. In the wild the dogs eat the stomach contents of the animals they kill, and get all their vegetation needs met that way. A very small amount of vegetables and a very large amount of meat is what is called for. Don't get a dog food that has corn as its first ingredient or wheat, wheat gluten, or soy among the first 5 ingredients. Dogs have a tough time digesting grains, and they'll pass right through them, making the dog's stools larger and mushier than they should be. Try Canidae, Royal Canin, Wellness, Eagle Natural Pack Holistic, Burns, or any of the other meat-based kibbles. You can choose between venison, beef, chicken, turkey, and lamb, I believe. Please don't deprive your dog of what HE needs because of your own dietary preferences.
  17. You cannot get vegetarian food from a supermarket. Supermarkets only carry junk garbage dog food anyways. I beleive you can get vegetarian dog food, but its kind of hard to find. Its really not the best diet for dogs. Dogs are carnivores. They really do not get much nutrition out of vegetables and fruits.. their digestive tracts were just designed to break down meat, not plants. Even look at a dog's mouth.. it was designed for ripping and tearing, not for grinding. We survive quite well on a vegetarian diet.. but our digestive sytems were designed that way. Honestly I do beleive we humans have too much meat in our diets. Its your decision not to eat meat, but please do not force this on an animal who is a carnivore by nature!
  18. not a good idea they are meet eaters you might make him ill you would have to change his diet since he was a pup if hes coming from a shelter he would be fed food for meat eaters as they are carnivals don't get a dog get a stuffed toy
  19. dogs are not vegetarians you will cause the animal health problems by making it eat how you do dont get a dog if you are not willing to give it proper food
  20. You aren't likely to find it in the super market, but only at high-end pet supply shops, or online. check out this site for options: http://www.vegetariandogs.com/ More sources: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rls=GGGL%2CGGGL%3A2006-18%2CGGGL%3Aen&q=vegetarian+dog+food&btnG=Search
  21. AvoDerm Natural (AvoDerm is found at PetSmart - I don't know about the Natural, but I think you could special order it if not)...is a vegeterian fully balanced dog food for meat sensitive dogs... I too, think dogs should have meat, but every owner is free to decide what kind of food to feed their dog, beef, chicken, lamb, bison, salmon.... Good Luck and congratulations on your new dog!
  22. Dogs are not vegetarian ~ if you can't feed a dog the diet it needs then don't get a dog. It's a choice for you to make, it's not a healthy choice for a dog. Try Solid Gold, Orijen, Canadie kibbles ~ they have very healthy ingredients that will help a dog live a long and healthy life.
  23. If you are in the UK you most certainly can get vegetarian dog food in the major pet shops. Happidog I believe is vegie and some of the major manufacturers now do veggie dog food. http://www.veggiepets.com/ http://www.happidog.co.uk/ http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/dogformulas/Vegetarian.html Dogs can survive and indeed be very healthy on a vegi diet but it does have to be well balanced. Have a look here http://www.vegsoc.org/info/dogfood1.html
  24. I am afraid that you WILL get peoples opinions. A dog is a carnivore so why do you think you have the right to impose your own dietary belief's on it. Get a Goldfish or a Budgie.
  25. What would you say if I told you I was getting a horse as a pet and I was going to feed it nothing but beef? Would you tell me where to get beef on sale or would you maybe give me your opinion on the matter? It's not right to force your ideal diet on another animal. They were made to eat meat and to force them to eat vegetarian is just plain wrong. Don't get a dog if you can't stomach the idea of feeding them what they are SUPPOSED to eat.
  26. You probably won't find vegetarian dog food at normal supermarkets. Try looking for them online or at some pet supply store.
  27. Natural Balance has a Vegan Formula. it's not availble in your regular grocery store though. You may be able to order it online or locate a store that does sell it from the website locator.
  28. I am not going to lecture you but don't get a dog. Why?? It appears tht you are stupid.
